Elmer’s Bag It Forward! #bagitforward

by Amy on July 19, 2010

I had the wonderful opportunity from Collective Bias & Elmer’s to participate in the Bag It Forward program! Bag It Forward was created by Elmer’s to help kids who might not otherwise get all the school supplies they need, kind of like “paying it forward,” but you buy school supplies :)

When I told my 9 yr old about this, she was super excited and really wanted to help! She quickly decided that we needed to Bag It Forward for two kids – one girl and one boy. She planned out what she wanted to get, and we went off to Walmart to see if we could score some great deals!

And holy cow! We bought a TON of things for soooo cheap. Since when did they have notebooks for $0.15? When I was in school, $0.99 was the going rate. $0.15 is UH. MAZING. And Elmer’s Glue Sticks for only $0.25 for a 2-pack? Helllllooooo! I can find lots of craft projects for those! And there were more great deals – crayons for $0.25, pencils for $0.50, folders for $0.75.

We decided to make a little video to let you tag along on our awesome adventure to Walmart! My husband was the wonderful videographer, so you can thank him for any blurriness or shaking of the camera (ha! love ya, sweetie!):

I realized after I watched this several times that I say “Hey” a lot. Hm. I guess it’s better than “like,” right? But isn’t it awesome how many great deals we got? Those backpacks were only $5! Emma was so excited that she wanted to tell everyone the price. Do you see me beaming? That’s a bargain-hunter in the making. And the lunch boxes? Only $3! Oh, and did you check out those Elmer’s Project Popperz? Where in the world were those when I was in school? I am absolutely positive that I could’ve had a 4.0 average if only I would’ve had those to put on my presentations.

And, like I said in the video, even if you just have a few dollars to spend, you can totally rock the Bag It Forward and get a bunch of notebooks or Elmer’s Glue Sticks, or even some folders. Every single little bit helps.

Emma and I are heading out later today to drop off our two backpacks filled with school supplies to Homeward Bound, a Phoenix non-profit for victims of domestic violence, and they’ll distribute them to school kids in our area. I’ll post photos tomorrow of our drop-off!
